Excitement is building for summer programs at the new Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy, and now students will have the incredible opportunity to learn from Broadway artists in virtual workshops included with enrollment in the camp experience. Acclaimed Broadway composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown (13: The Musical, The Last Five Years, Parade) leads the Virtual Mentor and Speaker Series, which also includes performers Karen Burthwright (Broadway’s Paradise Square), Benjamin Pajak (Broadway’s The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman), Hailey Lewis (Toronto’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and Claybourne Elder (Broadway’s Company).
There are limited spots still available in the one-week summer camps that will run at the brand new, state-of-the-art, Youth Academy facility from July 4 to July 22. Young performers will have fun, meet new friends, and gain skills while learning about blockbuster musical theatre shows! Attendees in each of three age categories, Kids (8-10), Youth (11-13) and Teens (14-18), will build on the fundamentals of singing, acting and movement by learning production numbers, solos, scenes and monologues from different, age-appropriate musicals each week. For students who prefer backstage fun, the Youth Academy will also offer an exciting “Technical Theatre 101” camp for teens who want to learn more about making behind-the-scenes magic like set construction, scenic painting, props, wardrobe, audio, lighting, running crew, and stage management.
