DISCOVER VET SCHOOL
at The Ontario Veterinary College
SATURDAY, MARCH 2ND FROM 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM
Global Vets is a student-run international volunteer initiative under the International Veterinary Medicine Club at the Ontario Veterinary College, that has grown since its establishment in 1997. The program allows student veterinarians to provide veterinary aid to developing countries around the world. Our projects focus on community support, animal welfare, and furthering international and intercultural veterinary relations. We also integrate the One Health Initiative – linking human, animal and environmental health. The Global Vets philosophy emphasizes the importance of fostering partnerships with individuals and organizations abroad to maximize the relationships between these local communities and student veterinarians. This year, the program is sending twenty-seven students to countries in Southeast Asia, South and Central America, and Africa. Our teams typically spend four to eight weeks over the summer in their chosen areas working closely with local organizations within the communities. OVC students have always been actively involved in local and international charities and we are all looking forward to upholding this tradition. Throughout the year, we hold multiple fundraising events to help Global Vets students fund their international projects. One of our largest fundraisers is a two-day series called Discover Vet School. Discover Vet School aims to promote the Ontario Veterinary College and engage with prospective students. The days involve a variety of lectures, labs, tours, and networking opportunities for participants, and are run entirely by Global Vets members.
This year, Discover Vet School is happening on Saturday, March 2nd, and we still have spots open for people to register! This event is open to people of all ages who are interested in experiencing a day in the life of a veterinary student. To register, CLICK HERE.
