Over 77,000 Canadians have Multiple Sclerosis, and that number is growing daily. Many people in the medical community consider that to be an epidemic!
MS is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that results from the body attacking itself and destroying the myelin covering of the nerves. This can lead to any number of unpredictable symptoms such as tingling, weakness, lack of coordination, extreme fatigue, vision and bladder problems, cognitive impairment, mood changes and even complete paralysis. Its effects are not only physical – but emotional and financial too.
Currently there is no cure for MS, but there is great hope for those afflicted with MS because of several strategic ways to manage the illness. The Beyond MS Association of Canada will be addressing some of these management approaches in a free lecture on “How to Overcome Multiple Sclerosis”. The lecture will be held on Friday September the 21st at 1 pm in the board room of the main Guelph Public Library (100 Norfolk St.)
