After finding out the Santa Claus parade was cancelled, The Guelph Games wanted to create an experience that was safe and offered families a fun way to meet Santa and celebrate Christmas. So together with the Guelph Storm, the Salvation Army, The Guelph Neighbourhood Groups and Wellington Motors, we will be putting on a Christmas Train. A train of decorated vehicles will stop at various neighbourhoods around Guelph.
The train will include Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Salvation Army band, Santa’s elves that will collect letters to Santa, and all 4 of Guelph’s Sports Mascots will also be in attendance (The Guelph Games, Guelph Storm, Guelph Nighthawks and U of G Gryphon).
Through the neighbourhood groups, we have come up with 6 locations around Guelph. We will be stopping in each location for 20 minutes or so and then heading to the next location.
We will be collecting non-perishable food, Toys for the Salvation Army Toy Drive and cash donations. Cash donations will be matched by Scotiabank (up to $3,000).
Event will run Dec. 5 from 12:30-4:30. For more information please visit our Facebook Page @TheGuelphGames.
