Arson charge laid in Mount Forest apartment fire

Wellington County OPP say an arson charge has been laid following an apartment fire in Mount Forest that displaced tenants from at least 10 units.

Firefighters and police were called to the area of Birmingham and Egremont streets on Thursday at around 5:50 a.m.

OPP said the fire was contained to a single unit and a 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with burns to his hand.

All residents were evacuated, but there is no word on when they will be able to return.

Damages are estimated at $100,000 and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified.

OPP said a 32-year-old man from Mount Forest has been charged with arson by negligence and will appear in court in January.

Mount Forest is approximately 65 kilometres northwest of Guelph.
